SwissTap Youth Company

The SwissTap Youth Company consists of a group of 16-20 young tap dancers (junior category: 12-16 years) selected by SwissTap during the Swiss Championships to participate in four intensive training weekends and a festival.

The aim of SwissTap is to form a strong nationwide group of dancers who share technical skills and a common choreographic vocabulary. Through classes with different teachers, they can get to know different styles and this will help them to develop their own style through improvisation, creation and experimentation. In addition, tap dance history and theory classes will complement the training sessions.
The workshops will be led by professional tap dancers from Switzerland: Daniel Borak, Olivia and Rebecca Grobéty, Daniel Leveillé, Zoe Wehrmüller and others.

The following contents are part of the programme:
- Learning new technique and strengthening fitness;
- Learning new original choreographies;
- Learning a "standard" choreography from tap dance history;
- getting to know historical tap dancers and styles;
- Improvisation (creating, experimenting, developing your own style);
- Preparation for cutting contests and jams;
- Introduction to the creation of choreographies;
- Preparing for and attending a festival and presenting the learned choreographies;
- Filming the learned choreographies.
